Location
The partner cities of the pilot areas are in Niederosterreich (Province Lower Austria) being part of the development axis in the South of Vienna.This area is to be considered as the transiotional area between the dinamically developing urban area and the high quality adjacent recreational areas, thus furnishing a great variety of utilization interests as well as resulting possible conflicts.
Objective
Issuing the basic features of an intercommunal strategy plan.
Description
The pilot action aims at issuing the basic features of an intercommunal strategy plan for the relevant key issues addressing the following questions:
-Based upon an integrated and holistic project approach, can a typology of the cities concerned be determined applicable to case studies?
- Within the framework of a SWOT-Analysis regarding the pilot areas, can specific potentials and chances as well as weaknesses for AS SLUC be identified in the close area around MEGAs?
- Which strategies und instruments can be developed and implemented in the pilot areas (e.g. strategy plans, intermunicipal urban and regional planning, civic participation, concentration and pooling of interests, etc.) in order to make more effective use of potentials and to counter risks?
- How can the developed and tested models and strategies for cities and municipalities of other regions with comparable frame conditions be enhanced in terms of practical use and further development?

Roveredo - Mesolcina
Location
Roveredo and the neighbouring municipalities (San Vittore and Grono) are in south-west of the Canton of Grisons (Switzerland) at the border to Canton Ticino and Italy.
Objective
Market the location to attract new residents.
Description
In the pilot action Roveredo-Mesolcina we would like to carry out strategic processes with the planning authority as if their municipality were a product to be marketed. The strategic processes are based on the following points: Diagnostic - Understanding the needs - Building a realistic vision - Creating an actionable plan – Building internal consensus and effective organisation – Evaluating. Roveredo-Mesolcina has the objective to market his location to attract new residents after the inauguration on 2016 of the bypass-road.

Poschiavo
Location
Poschiavo is a municipality in the district of Bernina in the south of the canton of Grisons in Switzerland. It is located in the north of the Val Poschiavo at 13 km to the border with Valtellina (Italy).
Objective
Market the historic centres to attract visitors.
Description
In the pilot action Poschiavo we would like to carry out strategic processes with the planning authority as if their municipality were a product to be marketed. Plan for cultural, leisure, sport and transport facilities and plan for economic activities estates in Pays « Une Autre Provence »
Location
122 municipalities in Drôme (FR71: Rhône-Alpes) and Vaucluse (FR82: Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur).
Objective
Scheme of structuring facilities with the aim of complementarity and territorial cohesion between Rhône Valley and mountain area; scheme of specific activities estates with the aim of establishment of specialized companies.
Description
The Pays « Une Autre Provence » is a wide territory shared between the Rhône Valley and the Alpine Massive. The Rhône Valley, very urbanized, is a major communication line. Opposite, the mountain area is very depopulated, because of the decline of agriculture since 150 years. The strategy of the Pays « Une Autre Provence » is to further territorial cohesion between these very different areas. The Plan for facilties aims to coordinate funding and creation of intercommunal facilities. An inventory of needs and projects will be followed by a programme of cultural, leisure and sports facilities, and a programme of transports hubs in little towns. The Plan for economic activities estates will bring out specific local products (aromatic plants, packaging…) with the aim to enhance the specialized employment.

Plan for a network of « Territory Spaces » for the promotion of heritage, environment and economic resources of « Ventoux-Comtat Venaissin » Community
Location
4 municipalities: Beaumes-de-Venise, Carpentras, Malaucène, Saint-Didier in Vaucluse (FR82: Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur).
Objective
The Plan for a network of four « Territory Spaces » aims to popularize knowledge on environment and heritage, and to promote economical resources (farm products, wine, crafts) of the territory, for tourists and local population.
Description
The « Ventoux-Comtat Venaissin » Community, which contents 25 municipalities located on the southern side of the Mount Ventoux, has many interesting natural and cultural resources. Besides the « Man and Biosphere » reserve of Mount Ventoux protected by UNESCO, this territory is consisted of beautiful picturesque landscapes and historical towns and villages. The programme plans three « Territory Houses » and one « Territory Park », shared on four areas: Dentelles de Montmirail (mountain) (Beaumes-de-Venise), Comtat Plain (Carpentras), Mount Ventoux (Malaucène) and Vaucluse Mountains (Saint-Didier). Each « Territory Space » will bring out the specific identity of each area: geology and landscape in Dentelles de Montmirail, agriculture and markets in Comtat Plain, history and mountain sports in Mount Ventoux, botany and stone in Vaucluse Mountains.

Description:
Municipality of Idrija has a successful manufacturing sector, but on the other side lacks jobs in other economic sectors. For this reason we will prepare a strategy of sustainable development of the municipality to define future strategic objectives of the municipality. We will link it to the protocols of Alpine convention and thus also provide Idrija with the required development strategy for the Alpine town of the year project.

Description
Idrija is a unique site of technical heritage based on the century-long mercury mining. After the fall of the mining Idrija has redirected into innovative electro industry and thus has become an important global centre for this branch. But outside this specific sector of economy Idrija is not recognized and thus the Alpine town of the year offers a great opportunity for the promotion of Idrija and its heritage among tourists and potential visitors. Within this action we will prepare some promotional material and actions.

Objective
Testing and improving NTA's tool for monitoring of development sustainability, competitiveness and attractiveness of AS SLUCs.
Description
NTA will test the tool for analysing and monitoring competitiveness and attractiveness and planning further development of AS SLUCs that it will develop within CAPACities project. The tool will be tested in Slovene Alpine Region / Gorenjska and Gori?ka regions / Upper Sava Valley, Lower Sava Valley, Idria Mountains, Soča Valley and Kamnik Alps subregions. Tool will be also tested abroad in cooperation with other project partners. Testing will help NTA improve the tool to serve the best for monitoring development sustainability and planning further development in Alps/ AS SLUCs. Testing in different countries and modifications based on such testing results warrant wider applicability of the tool (not only specifics of Slovene Alps will be considered).

Plaine d’Aoste
Location
The Plaine d’Aosta is localized at the centre of the Dora’s valley. It corresponds to the urban system of Aosta. The territory comprises 16 municipalities : Aosta, Aymavilles, Brissogne, Charvensod, Fénis, Gignod, Gressan, Jovençan, Nus, Pollein, Quart, Roisan, Saint-Christophe, Saint-Marcel, Saint-Pierre, Sarre.
Objective
The idea of the project is to implement, with the main public and private stakeholders, new processes of participation in order to improve a strategic vision of a community development.
Description
In the municipalities of the periphery of the regional capital, municipalities, in which lives half of the all regional population, are developed activities’ clusters (public administration, services, commercial malls, agriculture specialized in local productions) and residential neighbourhoods. These news poles provide strategic functions, complementary to those of the historic city. The main objective of the project is to understand the relations between these new poles and to enhance their complementarity, in the perspective of an improvement of attractiveness and competitiveness of the regional capital. The project forecasts the elaboration of a bilingual guidance about territorial planning, that includes a new concept of participation and insists about the role of intercommunality

Walser Mountain Community
Location
The Walser Mountain Community is localized in the high Valley of Lys and comprises four municipalities : Issime, Gaby, Gressoney-Saint-Jean, Gressoney-La-Trinité.
Objective
In this pilot area is forecasted the elaboration of a tourist development project based of the enhancement of human, cultural and environmental resources
Description
The territory of the Comunità Montana Walser, to become a tourist pole more attractive and competitive, will have to create a network of cooperation in order to institute synergies between initiatives in which are already implicated private actors and social groups as young people and retired. The process of participation will contribute to create synergies between existing actions, and the outputs will be a market study about local tourist products and a guide about Walser culture. These outputs will help to build a strategic development frame shared by local politicians and inhabitants.
